Paula Sanchez

Paula Sanchez’s dance career marked Netherlands Dance Theater for 17 years. In her tenure, she created roles with Jiri Kylian (Whereabouts Unknown, One of a Kind, Bella Figura, Arcimboldo, Claude Pascal, Last Touch, Toss of a Dice), Ohad Naharin, (Diapasson, Kammos), Saburo Teshegawara, Hans van Manen (Polish Pieces), Paul Lightfoot (Step Lightly, Shangri-la, Arcimboldo), Regina Van Berkel, and André Gingras. She also performed repertory by William Forsythe, Mats Ek, and Nacho Duato.
Born in Madrid in 1972, Sánchez studied with Carmina Ocaña, Escuela Nacional de Danza/Madrid, and Carmen Roche.
Since leaving Netherlands Dance Theater Paula performing career continued in productions of Dogtroep, Kylian-Schumacher-Kupferberg, Richard Siegal/The Bakery, and Gintersdorfer/Klaßen. She has also assisted in the choreography for productions at The New York City Ballet’s Choreographic Institute, Göteborg Opera, and the musical theater and film productions of director David Serrano.

Her credits as a choreographer included 2011 Daniel Sánchez Arevalo’s film Primos , and 2014 L’Aurore French theater production. She has taught Kylian repertoire at American Dance Festival, Bennington College, University of Philadelphia, University of South Florida, Conservatorio de Danza de Sevilla under the direction of Blanca Li, and Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila en Madrid. Paula has been a certified Gyrotonics and Gyrotoner instructor since 2012 and is currently under Hilary Cartwright’s mentoring program Yoga for Dancers.
